The librarian who saved my 8th grade project with one phone call in 1998
Back in 1998 I needed sources on the Triangle Shirtwaist fire for a history paper and our school library had exactly one book, and it was checked out until after my due date. The librarian, Mrs. Alderman, didn't just shrug at me. She picked up the phone, called the public library two towns over, and had them hold three books plus a folder of newspaper clippings on microfilm. I still remember her writing the call number for the microfilm reel on a scrap of paper and telling me the machine took dimes. Took me two bus rides to get there but I got an A minus on that paper. Now I watch my niece do the same kind of search in about 4 seconds and I wonder if she'll ever have a Mrs. Alderman story. What's the one librarian interaction you still think about?
