That librarian at the downtown branch saved my research paper with one weird trick
I was stuck on a paper about 1920s labor strikes in Detroit for like 2 weeks. Couldn't find anything solid online. This older librarian named Carol told me to check the 'vertical files' in the back - basically old newspaper clippings and pamphlets they kept from the 1960s. Found a whole folder of first-hand accounts from workers. Totally changed my argument. Has anyone else had a librarian pull some hidden gem like that?

Read somewhere that those vertical files are goldmines for local history stuff nobody puts online.

@evah40 heard a librarian once say those vertical files are basically time capsules of stuff people forgot to digitize. Old newsletters, flyers from local events, even handwritten notes that got stuffed in there and never saw the light of day again. Makes you wonder what else is hiding in those cabinets, right?
