Rant: a librarian in Boise showed me one chart and it flipped my whole view on reading fast
I always figured people who read 60 books a year were skimming and not really getting much out of it. Last Tuesday I stopped by the library in Boise to grab a repair manual, and the lady at the desk pulled up a chart from a 2019 study showing comprehension holds steady up to about 400 words a minute for most adults. I sat there kind of annoyed because I read at maybe 180 and thought that made me the careful one. Turns out I was just slow, not deep. Now I'm second guessing every time I pat myself on the back for taking 3 weeks on a 300 page book, so does anyone have a source that says the opposite, because I want to argue with this.
