My 3rd grade library card still beats every app I've tried
Last month I was helping my nephew with a school project on local wildlife and he pulled out his tablet to search. I laughed because I remembered getting my first library card in Tampa back when I was 8, and the old card catalog drawers smelled like sawdust. Three years ago I tried one of those research apps with the fancy filters and it kept giving me articles behind paywalls. Last week I walked into our branch and asked the reference lady for bird migration maps, and she handed me three atlases plus a stack of field guides from 1974 that had better drawings than anything online. People keep saying the internet makes libraries pointless, but I've wasted 40 dollars on ebook rentals that crashed while a free interlibrary loan got me a rare thesis in 6 days. Has anyone else gone back to paper sources after paying for digital tools that just don't stack up?
