Just realized my library hold requests were expiring because I wasn't checking my email
Last Tuesday I went to grab a book I'd been waiting 3 weeks for, only to find out the hold expired 2 days before I showed up. The librarian at the desk said, 'Yeah, we send a notice 48 hours before it gets pulled.' I didn't even know I had email notifications turned off in my account settings. Has anyone else missed holds because of this or am I the only one who spaced on checking?

This is just how EVERYTHING works now and it drives me crazy. Library holds, doctor appointment reminders, package delivery windows, car warranty emails, you name it. The assumption is you're glued to your phone 24/7 checking notifications. I missed a dentist appointment because they sent the reminder text to an old number and figured that was good enough. The world is set up for people who never go offline, but some of us actually put our phones down sometimes. It's like expecting everyone to check three different apps just to exist in society.

Setting down the phone is a choice, not a mandate for everyone else.
