Got lost in the Seattle Central Library stacks for an hour, zero regrets
I went downtown last Saturday to grab one book on Pacific Northwest history and ended up wandering the spiral bookcase for a full hour. That building has floors that tilt and colors that change as you walk, and I found a whole section on local ferry folklore I never knew existed. The librarian on the 5th floor pointed me to an oral history archive that had recordings from 1972, way better than any website I could pull up on my phone. It made me think we barely use our city libraries for discovery anymore, we just treat them like pickup lockers for holds. I walked out with four books and a stack of photocopied maps instead of the one thing I came for. Has anyone else just browsed the stacks somewhere and stumbled onto something way more interesting than their original plan? What did you find?
