Found a way around that $800 textbook problem at my uni library
I needed a criminology textbook that cost $180 new at the campus store. I walked into the library reserve section on a Tuesday and found they had a copy I could borrow for 2 hours at a time. Spent 3 afternoons there taking photos of the assigned chapters with my phone and it cost me zero dollars.

The library by me had a copy of a $300 organic chem book but it was only for "in library use" so I literally sat on the floor between two shelving units for three hours taking photos of each page with my phone. My knees are still mad at me a year later lol. At least my wallet is safe though, I spent that saved cash on coffee and therapy for my back pain lmao.

Right? The "in library use only" thing is SUCH a scam sometimes. I notice this HUGE disconnect everywhere now where systems are set up to "help" you but really they just make you jump through hoops. Like my bank has a "branch only" thing for certain transactions but then the branch has weird hours and you gotta take a number and wait 45 minutes. Or trying to return something at a store and they say "online order? Gotta call customer service" and then customer service says "well go to the store." The world is just FULL of these little traps where you gotta choose between your time or your money and nobody wins but the system itself.
