Did I use microfiche wrong for a whole semester?

Back in 2019 I spent a full semester digging through old newspaper reels for a local history project, and it took me until the last week to realize the machine had a scan-to-USB button the whole time. I sat there with a tiny notepad copying dates and quotes by hand for 4 months, and a student worker finally walked over and showed me in about 10 seconds. Has anyone else burned hours on the old way before stumbling onto the obvious feature, or am I just the slow one?
