Spent $75 on a 'Roman coin' from a guy at a flea market in Tucson...
Got all excited about a denarius he said was from the reign of Augustus. Took it to the university archaeology department last week and they confirmed it's a modern cast replica, probably made in the last 20 years. Felt pretty silly for not checking his story first. Has anyone else gotten burned on fake artifacts before?

I mean, the archaeology department was the right call though. At least you got a real answer instead of just wondering. I've seen some pretty convincing fakes out there too.
