Question about the trowel I picked at a dig near Flagstaff
Two summers back I volunteered on a survey near Flagstaff and the site lead handed me a choice: a beat up 4 inch pointing trowel or a fancy new one with a cushioned grip. I went with the cushioned one because my wrist was already sore, and of course it snapped at the neck on day 3 while I was scraping around what turned out to be a fire pit. The site lead just laughed and said nobody ever picks the old one first. Anyone else got a gear regret story from the field?
Those cushioned grips look nice but the neck is the weak point every time. Keep the old wood handle in your bag as backup and save the fancy one for light work like screening or bagging.
