Pro tip: skip the "professional" metal detector if you're just starting out
I dropped $300 on a fancy Fisher model because every forum said you need the good stuff to find anything legit. Spent six weekends out at a old farm site near Denton and all I dug up was rusty bottle caps and a 1987 soda can. Turns out the cheap $80 detector my buddy uses finds the same stuff because it's all about technique not the price tag. Anyone else get suckered into overspending on gear before they even knew what they were doing?

That $80 buddy detector is all you need till you learn the ground.

Bet that buddy detector's just gonna make you stare at your screen instead of feeling the dirt and watching for changes in the terrain. You don't really learn the ground till you've walked it blind a hundred times.
