Pro tip: dust mask filters work great on old artifact bags

I do field walking in the desert near Tucson, and those thin poly bags always blow open and let sand in. Tried heavier bags, tape, even those clip things. A buddy from a survey crew said grab a cheap dust mask and cut the filter out. Lay it inside the bag before sealing. Sand stays out, air gets out. Has anyone else rigged up something like this for storing finds in rough conditions?
