My drone's SD card died over a dig site in Nevada

Last month I was doing aerial shots of that old mining camp near Tonopah and the card corrupted mid-flight, lost about 200 photos. The drone itself landed fine but the footage was gone. I'm back to using a wired shutter release and a cheap backup camera for ground shots now. Anyone else have a storage failure ruin a field recording, and do you trust cloud uploads from remote sites?
