Found 14 pottery shards in one backyard pit in Tucson on Saturday, my best day digging yet
I've been volunteering with a local dig crew for about 8 months and mostly we just find flakes and the occasional nail. Last Saturday at a site near the Santa Cruz River I pulled 14 decorated Hohokam shards out of a single 1x1 meter unit in under 3 hours, way more than my whole first month combined. My field lead said the density there points to a trash midden, which is honestly the coolest thing I've ever heard about my own hole. I washed and cataloged every piece myself that afternoon and even got to label them with the site number. Anyone else have a day where one square just keeps giving?
