Best dig week of my life near the Platte River, then nothing for 6 days

Last month I joined a small survey crew out by a bend in the Platte River in Nebraska. Monday morning we found a broken bison scapula with cut marks, then Tuesday a fire pit with charred nut hulls, and Wednesday a projectile point base that might be Paleo. I was floating, thought I was the luckiest person alive. Then Thursday through Saturday, absolutely nothing. Not even a flake. Just dirt and roots and my back hurting. It got me thinking, is it normal to have those huge bursts followed by dead stretches, or am I missing something in how I read the ground? Any of you had a week like that where the finds just stopped cold?
