Warning: check your climbing gear for battery acid damage

Last month in Portland I pulled my saddle out of the truck and noticed the buckles looked weird. Turned out a AA battery had leaked in my gear bag and corroded the metal on my D-ring harness. Never thought to check for that. Has anyone else seen battery damage on hardware before?

Actually AA batteries don't usually leak like that, its the lithium ones that cause that kind of damage. You sure it wasn't a lithium battery? Either way good catch though, that stuff is no joke on climbing hardware.

Agree with you completely, that stuff is no joke. Had a buddy ruin a whole tool bag from one leaky battery, just ate through everything. It's scary how fast it spreads once it starts. Glad you pointed it out, people overlook that kind of damage way too often.
