Vent: My crew just hit 500 hazard trees removed from that new development site
We started that job six months ago, clearing for a big housing project near the river. The foreman kept a tally on a whiteboard in the truck. Yesterday, we cut down a huge, dead cottonwood that was leaning over the future playground, and that was number 500. It hit me how much raw material, and risk, we've taken off that one piece of land. Most of them were ash trees, just riddled with borer damage and ready to fail. Has anyone else had a single site with a number that high, or did we just get a really bad lot?

Five hundred? Did your foreman run out of room on the whiteboard or just give up counting? That's a wild number for one site, but honestly, it sounds about right for anything near a river these days. I swear some of these new plots are just tree graveyards waiting for us to show up.

We had a site like that last year. Just bring extra saw blades and plan for the hauling to take twice as long.

The "plan for the hauling to take twice as long" part really hit me. I used to think you could power through those nightmare sites with enough adrenaline, but you're absolutely right - better to just accept the slow grind from the start.
