Tried a new climbing rope on a big oak removal in Portland, it stretched way more than I expected.

Yeah, that stretch can be a real surprise on a big tree.

Shake it off and just keep going. I've never really bought into the idea that a sudden stretch of trunk changes the game all that much. If you're paying attention and taking it section by section, it's just another few feet of wood. Maybe it's different if you're running a heavy saw, but for pruning and rigging, a little extra trunk usually just means a couple more steps before you tie in.

Totally. You get lulled into a rhythm and then BAM, the trunk just keeps going. Makes you rethink your whole climbing plan in a hurry.
