That one storm last June wrecked my whole week's schedule
Had a microburst come through near Cleveland. Took out 7 mature oaks on one property alone. I spent 4 straight days just on cleanup, no new bids or estimates. Lost a solid 3 grand in potential work because I couldn't get to other clients. Anyone else have a single weather event mess up their entire month?

My buddy lost his entire back deck to a freak hailstorm in July.

60mph winds did the same to my neighbor's fence two years ago, and the insurance company tried to lowball him until he pushed back with photos. Tell your buddy to look up his deductible first because that's where a lot of people get caught - a $2000 deductible on a $1500 repair doesn't help anyone. He should also check if his policy has a separate wind/hail deductible percentage, because some of those are 5% of the home's value and that's a whole different game.

Has he checked what his insurance actually covers for that kind of damage? A lot of people don't realize hail damage to decks is usually covered under the same policy as your house, but you gotta read the fine print. I'd tell him to take tons of photos before he cleans anything up and call his agent right away. Make sure he doesn't sign anything from a contractor until the insurance adjuster comes out first. That whole process can be a headache but it's better than paying out of pocket.
