That oak root graft I discovered saved me 3 hours on a pruning job
I was working on a big old red oak in a backyard here in Columbus. Had this one big limb over the house that needed to come off. Started cutting and realized the tree was actually grafted to its neighbor through the roots. Never seen it that obvious before. Changed my whole cut sequence and the limb came down clean without any extra rigging. Learned to check the ground around the base more carefully before I start. Anybody else run into root grafts changing how you plan your cuts?

Root grafts are tricky like that. You don't always see them until you're in the cut. I'd bet that one was sharing more than just a physical connection. The whole tree's reaction to stress changes when they're hooked up like that. Good practice to dig around a bit before starting, saves a headache later. Always pays to look at what's underneath before you start swinging a saw.

Did you check if the graft was actually sharing resources or just physically fused? I had one where the roots were basically drinking from the same well and it changed how the whole tree reacted to the cut.
