Picked a Stump Grinder Over a Bobcat for a Job in Portland Last Week

I had to choose between renting a stump grinder or a Bobcat with a stump bucket for about 20 stumps behind an old house. Went with the grinder because I figured it'd be faster on the tight access. Turned out to be the right call, finished in 6 hours versus probably 10 with the Bobcat. Has anyone else ran into this kind of choice and regretted one side?

Man that sounds like it worked out perfectly for you. I had a similar situation a few months back where I was on the fence between a mini excavator and a stump grinder for like 15 stumps in a backyard with a narrow gate. I went with the excavator at first and it was a total nightmare, kept getting stuck and took forever to maneuver. Ended up having to swap it for a grinder mid job and it saved my whole weekend. You definitely made the smarter call with that tight access, that extra 4 hours of work would have been brutal.

That 15 stump job with the narrow gate is a perfect example of how people always pick the bigger tool first and regret it. I see the same thing at work all the time - someone grabs the heavy mixer or the oversized ladle because it looks like it'll get the job done faster, but it just makes everything harder. Sometimes the smaller, simpler option really is the better move.
