My boss made me try a $40 Japanese pruning saw on a big maple removal.
I thought it was just a gimmick for small jobs. But that thing cut through a 10 inch limb like butter. Way faster than my usual bow saw. Now I keep it on my belt all day. Anyone else switch to a specific hand saw that surprised them?

Sounds like a good way to lose a finger when that fancy little saw kicks back on a real cut. My old bow saw might be slower, but it's predictable and tough as nails. Spending forty bucks on a saw that'll probably snap the first time it pinches seems like a waste. Some new tools are just solutions looking for a problem.

Ever notice how this happens with everything now? Like my mom refuses to use the digital thermostat because she trusts the old dial, even if it's less accurate. People get so used to one way of doing things that any change feels like a personal attack, even when it's just a different kind of saw. It's not really about the tool, it's about feeling like your way of life is being replaced.

Lose a finger" is a bit dramatic, John. I mean, it's a saw, not a chainsaw. Maybe just don't use it to cut down a tree?
