Finally stopped using a chainsaw to trim palm fronds

Been doing it for years cause it was faster. Then a guy at the supply house showed me the cut ends. All frayed and jagged. Invites rot and bugs. Switched to a sharp hand saw last month. Takes a minute longer but cuts are clean. Trunk looks way better too. Anyone else make this mistake for too long?

@jamieburns don't stress too hard, queen palms are tougher than people think and one inspection won't ruin anything.

Been doing it for years cause it was faster" - oh man, that HURTS to read. I've been using a chainsaw on my queen palms for like 5 years now and never thought twice about it. Gonna go check the cut ends tomorrow and I'm already annoyed at myself for probably finding exactly what you described. That shredded look must just be inviting every bug in the neighborhood for a free lunch. You got me all paranoid about rot creeping in and ruining the whole tree.
