Climbing spur puncture made me rethink my saddle setup
Last month during an oak removal in Tacoma, I slipped on wet bark and drove a gaff into my own calf through my boot, which was a first in 12 years of climbing. The puncture was shallow but it got me looking at how my saddle and lanyard position might have contributed to the awkward stance. Has anyone else had a close call like that and changed how they place their spurs or adjust their work positioning for slippery limbs?
I gotta say I see it a little different. A gaff slipping into your own calf is usually more about the limb being wet and your foot angle than your saddle or lanyard setup. I've had my share of sketchy slips and messing with spur placement never really fixed it, keeping my weight back and my feet flat did.
