Climb spikes on healthy trees: time for a change?
I used to believe spikes were just part of the job for any climb, but after finding serious decay in cherry trees from old wounds, I've totally switched to spurless methods for pruning. Some crews say spikes are crucial for getting up fast and staying secure, but I'm convinced the harm to the tree isn't worth it. Where do you all stand on using spikes for live work versus saving them only for removals?

Used to laugh at that idea myself until I saw the proof yesterday.
