My grandma told me landlords used to live in the same building, and that blew my mind

I was helping my grandma clean out her basement in Cleveland and she started talking about the first place she rented back in 1971. She said the landlord lived two doors down and fixed her sink the same afternoon she called him about it. Now I'm looking at places where the property company is in another state and I have to send three emails just to get a callback. Do any of you have a landlord who actually lives nearby anymore?
