Talking to a guy at the comic shop changed how I watch dubs now
I was at Comic Kingdom in Austin last Saturday and this older collector told me he watches anime with the English dub because he likes to catch the background art. He said he missed so much detail reading subs that he rewatched whole series. Has anyone else switched their audio preference just because of a weird reason like that?

Honestly, that collector makes a solid point. Ngl I never thought about missing background art because of subs. Tbh I always watched dub anyway because I can multitask while folding laundry. But that reason is way more legit than mine. Dub defenders usually just say it's easier for them to follow, but this guy actually gave a creative reason. I might pay more attention to the animation now too.

Come on now, you're giving too much credit to that collector guy. Half the time the background art in anime is just generic trees and buildings anyway, not some masterpiece you're missing. Unless you're watching Ghibli or something from Kyoto Animation, most of that stuff is copy-paste filler. And multitasking while watching a dub totally defeats the purpose of watching a show. You're half paying attention and missing the nuances in the voice acting and the timing of the jokes. You might as well just put it on as background noise. People act like reading subtitles is this huge chore but it takes maybe an episode or two to get used to it. Plus you get the original voice performance which is usually way more expressive than the English version.
