Remember when you had to buy a whole series on DVD to rewatch it?

Back in 2010, I spent about $150 on the complete box set for an anime I loved. It was a big chunk of my summer job money. I thought I'd watch it forever, but then streaming services came along. Now that box set just sits on my shelf collecting dust. Anyone else have a shelf of old anime DVDs they never touch anymore?

Yeah that whole "collecting dust" thing hits hard. I see it with my old video game consoles and even some tools I bought before better stuff came out. We end up owning these physical pieces of a past version of our lives that just don't fit anymore.

Man, "physical pieces of a past version of our lives" is such a perfect way to put it, @kimc86. I have a whole shelf of old cameras that I swore I'd use, but my phone just does it all now. It's like holding onto a hobby that you don't have time for anymore. You look at the stuff and it just feels heavy, not fun.

Three hundred bucks for a DSLR I've used maybe twice since 2016. It's sitting in a drawer with three lenses. Honestly man, it's just stuff. People act like holding onto a camera means they're betraying their past self or something. It's a tool that got outdated. Toss it or sell it. No need to turn it into a philosophical crisis.
