Picked the 2011 version over Brotherhood for my rewatch and I'm second guessing myself 6 episodes in
I went with the original because I wanted the darker tone everyone talks about, but now I'm wondering if I should have just stuck with Brotherhood since it follows the manga, so for anyone who has watched both, which one do you actually think holds up better on a second run?

Man, I did the exact same thing a couple years back and made it like 10 episodes before I bailed and switched to Brotherhood. Funny thing is, the 2003 one actually starts stronger in some ways, the early stuff hits harder and the mood is just heavier, but then it goes off in its own direction and you can feel it. I remember sitting there around the Greed stuff going wait, this is not how I remember it at all, and then I looked up that the manga was still being written when they made it so they just made up an ending. That kind of killed it for me because I kept comparing every scene to what I knew was supposed to happen. Brotherhood's first few episodes actually rush the beginning since they assume you saw the 2003 one, which is its own problem, so neither is perfect. For a rewatch I'd say Brotherhood holds up better just because the whole thing feels like one complete story from start to finish. The 2003 one is worth seeing once for the vibe but it's hard to stick with when you know the real version.
