My buddy called me out on dropping 12 shows at episode 3, and I think he was right
My friend Dan and I were grabbing burgers in Reno two weeks ago and I mentioned how I keep dropping shows around episode 3 when they haven't hooked me yet. He said most of his favorite anime took 8 or 9 episodes to really get going, and that I was basically reading the first chapter of a book and quitting. I went home and looked at my list and counted 12 shows I bailed on early, including one that a bunch of people say has the best final arc of the decade. So now I'm rewatching three of them with a rule of at least 8 episodes before I decide. How many episodes do you give a show before you drop it, and has that number changed for you?
Wait, you counted TWELVE shows you bailed on and one of them has the best final arc of the decade? That is wild to me. Twelve is not a small number, that is basically a whole season of TV you gave up on. I usually tap out around episode 3 too but I never went back and tallied it up, and now I am scared to look at my own list. The part about your buddy saying it is like reading the first chapter of a book and quitting really got me though, because he is kind of right and I hate it. Honestly I have maybe ONE show I stuck with past episode 5 that paid off, so I do not know if 8 episodes is the magic number for me or if I am just picky.
