Just realized I've watched 50 anime this year and 40 of them were isekai lmao

I was scrolling through my MAL list and counted 52 total shows finished in 2023, but somehow 40 of them are isekai. Is my taste just completely broken or is the genre just that dominant now?

oh totally, that's a perfect way to describe it! i've got this old fantasy series i've read like 5 times now, and every time i pick it up it just feels like putting on my favorite hoodie lol. no shame in going back to the stuff that makes you feel good.

Oh, that's a nice way to put it. A friend of mine was telling me just last week how she re-reads a certain mystery series every year when she's feeling low, says it's like visiting old friends.
