I just noticed my MAL 'completed' list hit 500 shows, and it made me think about how we talk about anime.
I was updating my list after finishing a short series and saw the number, which made me realize I've spent more time in discussions about the shows than actually watching them.

My 500 shows taught me that the online discourse is often louder than the actual show itself.

What if the noise online is just easier to make than the quiet work of actually making a show? @oliviabennett, you see people building whole identities around having an opinion on something they never actually watch. The show itself is a finished thing, but the chatter online is a game anyone can play forever without ever touching the real product. It feels like we're rewarding performance over experience.
