Hot take: I spent a whole weekend arguing about 'filler' in a forum thread
It started with a post about the pacing in the 'One Piece' anime. I wrote a detailed reply about which arcs were adapted from the manga versus original to the show. The back-and-forth went on for about 48 hours, with people posting charts and episode counts. I realized I'd spent over 10 hours on it and hadn't actually watched any anime. Has anyone else gotten so deep into a meta-debate they forgot to just enjoy the shows?

I once spent three days debating if a hot dog is a sandwich. The internet makes us weird, right?

Last year I saw a 40 page Google Doc someone made ranking filler episodes of Naruto by rewatch value. The crazy part is they rated them on character development and animation quality, not just canon stuff. I mean, maybe it's just me but we're treating shows like homework now. We're grading the parts that are supposed to be fun breaks from the main story. Idk, it feels like we're trying to win being a fan instead of just being one.
