Dubbed vs subbed anime - which actually keeps the original intent better?

I've been watching anime for about 10 years now and I finally decided to test this myself. Last month I watched Attack on Titan season 1 fully dubbed, then immediately rewatched it subbed. The dubbed version changed some key character reactions and cut out a few grunts and pauses that actually mattered in tense scenes. I noticed the subbed version had about 15% more emotional weight just from keeping the original voice acting timing. But my friend says he misses visual details reading subtitles so he prefers dubbed for action shows. What's your take on this - do you think dubbed or subbed delivers the better experience overall?

Wait, 15% more emotional weight? You actually measured that? That's wild but honestly I kind of believe it. The pacing in subbed is just different, like you notice the little breaths and pauses that dubs sometimes flatten out to match mouth movements. My biggest shock with dub was in Fullmetal Alchemist when a character's angry growl got turned into a full sentence. Totally changed the vibe of the scene for me.
