Crunchyroll fact-check fail made me doubt my eyes

Last week I was arguing with my buddy about when Dragon Ball Z aired in Japan. I swore it was 1989. Went to check Crunchyroll's description page and it said 1996. That's the Kai version, not the original. So I pulled up Wikipedia on my phone at 2am and turns out the original aired in 1986 as Dragon Ball, then Z started in 1989. Crunchyroll had it flat out wrong. Has anyone else caught streaming sites messing up basic release dates like that?
