Binge-watched a 90s classic and my modern anime brain short-circuited

Last week I finally sat down to watch Berserk (the 1997 one) after hearing everyone hype it for so long. I went in expecting fight scenes every episode, but it took like 6 episodes to even get a real battle and the pacing threw me off. What hit me hardest was how the silence and still frames did more for the mood than any flashy sakuga moment these days. I actually had to rewatch two episodes because I missed dialogue while scrolling my phone, which I never do with newer shows. Has anyone else hit that wall going back to older anime after getting used to modern pacing?

wait, did you really expect nonstop fights from a 90s anime? most of them were slow burns back then, that's the whole point. try watching Evangelion next if you wanna feel old school pacing.
