Vent: That guy at the thrift store changed how I see old radios

I was digging through a bin of old receivers last Saturday and this older guy walked up and said 'you know, fixing these things teaches you patience the hard way'. I always just wanted to get them working fast and move on. But he pointed out a cracked solder joint on a 1970s Kenwood and showed me how to trace it step by step. Now I actually take my time testing each cap and resistor instead of rushing. Has anyone else had a random stranger slow you down like that?

lol that's basically the opposite of my experience. I once had a guy at a flea market yell at me for trying to unscrew a chassis too fast and told me I was gonna strip the threads. Then he handed me a rusty screwdriver and said 'this is the only tool you'll ever need'. Meanwhile he's got like three different sizes of pliers in his back pocket. But yeah, now I just sit there staring at components for ten minutes before touching anything. Works great until the shop closes.

At this point I just bring snacks and make it a whole event lol.
