Took the sticker off my 1988 Game Boy screen and now it plays like a dream
Bought this beat up Game Boy at a garage sale in Fresno for 25 bucks, and the screen had this nasty yellow film over it that I figured was just age damage. For two whole days I thought the LCD was shot and almost ordered a replacement screen online. Then my buddy who fixes old consoles said hold on, pop that plastic cover off first. Turns out it was just the original protective film from the factory that had turned brown after 30 years, and nobody ever peeled it off. I got it off with my fingernail in about 10 seconds, cleaned the screen with a little isopropyl on a q tip, and suddenly Mario was bright and clear like it was brand new out of the box in 1988. I sat there for like an hour just staring at how good it looked, feeling dumb but also kind of amazed. Anyone else ever almost replace a part when the real fix was way simpler than you thought?
