The $35 oscilloscope that made me ditch my multimeter habit

I used to think a multimeter was enough for diagnosing a crackly 70s receiver, but a blown cap that looked fine on the meter had me chasing ghosts for two weekends. Picked up a cheap used scope on eBay and found the ripple in about ten minutes. Anyone else find that the right tool actually shortcuts the whole zen process instead of ruining it?
