That repair shop in Portland had a sign that said 'No Digital Devices' and it actually worked
I stopped by this little camera repair place off Hawthorne last weekend and they had this rule. No phones, no laptops, nothing with a screen allowed inside. Honestly I almost walked out because I wanted to check my messages. But after 20 minutes of just watching the guy show me how he cleans a shutter mechanism I felt way more relaxed. Tbh I didn't even think about my phone after the first few minutes. Ngl it made me wonder why more shops don't try something like that. Has anyone else been to a place that forces you to unplug like that?

...and honestly that's probably why I STILL drag my film camera to my dentist's office even though the waiting room has a TV. They have this big old fish tank in the corner and I'll just sit there timing the bubbles instead of scrolling. It's funny how something so SIMPLE makes you realize your brain doesn't actually NEED the constant input.

timing the bubbles instead of scrolling" - wait, you're literally counting bubbles? Like, timing how long between each one? I don't think I've ever paid that close attention to a fish tank. That's wild. I'd probably just get hypnotized and forget why I'm even there.
