Spent 5 hours on a stuck film advance lever, and the fix was a 2 minute screw tighten
I got a Minolta X-700 at an estate sale in Sacramento for $15. The advance lever was frozen solid. I figured a dried up gear or a broken spring, so I pulled the bottom plate off and poked around for a bit. Then I spent about 3 hours reading old forum threads from 2009 and watching videos on full teardowns. I was about to give up and sell it for parts. On a whim I checked the tiny screw under the advance lever, and it was just loose enough to jam the mechanism. One turn with a small driver and it worked fine. Five hours for one screw. I felt like a real idiot, but honestly sitting there with the camera open and no screen in front of me was the best part of my week. Has anyone else chased a big repair and had it turn out to be something that small?
