My uncle's tape head cleaner trick was complete nonsense
He swore by rubbing alcohol on a cotton swab for my old Pioneer cassette deck in 2019, said it was the only way. It left a weird residue that ate the pinch roller, and I had to spend $35 on a proper cleaning kit from a shop in Portland. Anyone else get handed down a fix that made things worse?

Man that sucks, your uncle probably meant well but alcohol on a pinch roller is a classic way to wreck things. At least the $35 fix is something you can keep using for years, so it's not a total loss.
