I hit 60 repaired consoles this year and honestly it stopped feeling good around number 40
Everyone here talks about fixing old game consoles like it's this calm, slow thing that heals you. I bought that too. Last January I started keeping a tally on my workshop wall in Beaverton. Hit 60 last month, mostly NES and Genesis units from local flea markets.
Here's the thing nobody says out loud. Around 40, I stopped remembering which one was which. They blurred into one long pile of caps and cartridge slots. I was rushing to add another mark instead of enjoying the work. The hobby turned into a scoreboard, and that's exactly the fast, numbers-driven thing I came here to get away from.
I'm not saying tracking is bad for everyone. But I think the popular take that more repairs equals more peace is flat wrong. For me it did the opposite.
Curious if anyone else keeps a count, and if so, does it make the work better or just turn it into a chore?
