Guy at the flea market made me see my tape deck different
Some old timer selling cassettes told me his dad fixed radios to calm his hands after a stroke, and that this hobby is really about taking back quiet time from your brain. Has anyone else had a stranger put their whole reason for tinkering into words like that?

Have you ever had one of those moments where a total stranger just slices through all the noise and hits the nail right on the head? Because that happened to me once with a guy fixing an old watch at a swap meet. He said tinkering is just a way to tell your brain “sit down and shut up for a bit” while your hands do something real. I’ve never looked at my workbench the same way since. It’s like he gave me permission to enjoy the slow, quiet parts of fixing things instead of always rushing to the finish. That old timer was right, it’s not about the tape deck or the watch, it’s about grabbing a few hours where your head isn’t spinning.
