Fixing my grandfather's turntable from 78 with new grease vs. keeping it original

I used new lithium grease on the motor spindle instead of the dried up whale oil that was in there, and now it spins smooth for the first time in 40 years, but I am wondering if I wrecked its vintage vibe.

Is the "vintage vibe" in the room with us right now? Because it's sitting dead silent while your granddad's records just collect dust. People get so caught up in "original" that they forget original meant broken and useless after a few decades. You didn't take a sledgehammer to the thing, you kept it spinning instead of turning it into a showpiece. Would you rather have a perfectly frozen time capsule that does nothing, or a working machine that actually lets you hear the music again?

Wait, you're worried about wrecking the vibe by making it actually work?
