Can we talk about the nightmare week my VCR ate a family tape, and how I fixed it with a $4 part
Two weeks ago I tried to digitize my parents' wedding tape from 1985 on my old Panasonic VCR, and it ate the film right in front of me at 11pm. I almost cried because that was the only copy, but I remembered a guy at a flea market in Reno told me the pinch roller gets slick and grabs the tape. I ordered a $4 rubber replacement online, and after watching a 20 minute YouTube video I had the old roller out and the new one in. The tape played perfectly the next night, and now I check that roller on every VCR I find at thrift stores. Has anyone else saved a tape this way, or do you just toss the whole machine when it chews one up?
