Worst roll of film I shot in 8 years happened last Saturday

I loaded up some Portra 400 for a day out at the old train depot downtown. Shot 36 frames of the steam engine and some detail shots of the brass fittings. Got home and realized the film door popped open after frame 8, so the whole roll is just solid orange light leaks. The 3 usable frames are so washed out they look like vintage postcards. Has anyone else had a door latch fail mid roll and just accepted the loss?

Had a buddy lose a whole roll of hiking photos the same way up on Mount Rainier last summer. He was so bummed he just shoved the camera in his bag and didn't touch it for three months. The light leaks actually made the surviving shots look kinda dreamy though, like he'd been shooting through a foggy window or something.

Had a buddy lose a whole roll of his grandpa's old fishing cabin that way. He was trying to get the morning light hitting the wood stove inside and the door just popped. He was so pissed he threw the camera on the passenger seat and drove home. When he finally developed it months later, the 4 shots that survived had this crazy orange haze that made the old pine paneling look like it was glowing. He ended up framing one of them and hanging it in his garage. Said it looked better than what he was trying to do in the first place.
