That $60 light meter gadget turned my ruined rolls around

I used to guess exposure on my old Pentax and ended up with a ton of blank or blown out shots. Burned about $45 on film and development before I finally bought a cheap handheld meter at a flea market for $15. The first roll after that came back with actual visible faces, which honestly shocked me. I was dead set against spending more gear, but now I tell everyone starting out to get one before their third roll. Anybody else had a small tool that saved them more cash than it cost?
