Shot 2 rolls of 120 at a car show in Modesto on a borrowed Yashica Mat, then mixed up D-76 from a packet that had been open maybe 6 months. Developed for 12 minutes at 68F, pulled the film out and got completely clear negatives with no frame numbers or edge markings, which usually means the developer was dead, not that I loaded the reel wrong. I already ordered a fresh packet and a bottle of HC-110 as a backup, but before I burn another roll, has anyone seen a fixer go bad in a way that eats the film like this?
Reminds me of when my uncle tried to develop a roll he found in a shoebox from 1987. He used some old powder developer that had turned brown like instant coffee and the negs came out so clear you could read a newspaper through them. He swore it was the camera until my cousin pointed out the roll had never even been shot. Thing sat in a closet for 30 years and he still blamed the Minolta. Funny thing is the edge markings would have told him everything, same as your case. No numbers means the dev was toast before it ever touched your film.
