My camera back popped open at the Grand Canyon and I saved 12 shots with one dumb trick
Two weeks ago I was at the South Rim near Mather Point and my old SLR back popped open because the latch spring finally gave out. I heard the click and just froze, sun was out and I could see the film inside. I did not freak out and open it more, I put the camera straight into my jacket pocket so the light could not get in and waited till I got to the car. Then I wrapped the whole thing in a black t-shirt inside my duffel and drove to the one hour photo place in Flagstaff, about 80 miles away. The guy there told me he develops maybe one rolled-over roll a month from this exact thing and the trick is keeping it dark before you hand it over. I ended up getting 12 good frames off that roll, the first 3 were toast but that still beat losing all of them. Has anyone else had a back door spring go on them, and is it worth trying to fix or should I just retire the body?
